Earth from SpacePortland, Oregon is located in the Pacific Northwest region of North America near the border of Washington State at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers.  Getting here is easy by air, train, bus, or car. 

Travel Advisories

  • No MAX service is available after midnight.  Shuttle and taxi service is available:

  • TriMet Advisory - There may be scheduled maintenance between Gateway Transit Center and the airport on Saturday and Sunday (June 26 and 27).  MAX service to the airport will be replaced with shuttle busses on these days. 
  • Car Travel Construction Advisory - Right turns from MLK Blvd onto Lloyd Ave are suspended for 3 months.  Signage will direct drivers to continue on MLK and make a Left on Davis/Left on Grand/Left on NE Lloyd. Remain in the Left lane to maneuver around construction crews and enter the Lloyd lot or garage.

By Air

Portland International Airport (PDX) is serviced by most major North American carriers, and by many international carriers through connections with domestic partner airlines. 

Airport MAXAirport Ground Transportation

The Oregon Convention Center, meeting hotels, and Portland State University dorms are all easily accessible from the airport via MAX light railNo shuttle service will be provided for Evolution 2010.  The light rail platform is at the west end of the terminal near the Alaska/Horizon baggage claim area.  MAX Red line trains leave the airport for City Center every 15 minutes between 5:00 AM and Midnight.

Make your travel arrangements to arrive at PDX well before midnight for light rail transportation to your accomodations.  Your all-zone pass ($2.30) can be obtained before you board MAX from vending machines inside the terminal and on the platform (debit/credit accepted).  For convention center hotels, exit MAX at the Rose Quarter Transit Center (about 30 minutes).  For the PSU dorms, transfer to a "Green" or "Yellow" line train toward PSU at the Rose Quarter (about 15 minutes to PSU from the convention center).  All hotels, dorms, and the convention center are within a few blocks of the MAX lines.  Meeting attendees arriving after midnight will need to obtain a taxi ($25 - $30) for travel to their hotel or dorm (note that if you are staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, free shuttle service is available). 

By Train

Amtrack Cascades offers direct service to Portland's Union Station from Vancouver, BC, Seattle, WA, and Eugene, OR, and the Coast Starlight offers service from cities in California, with connecting lines for travel from cities across North America. Amtrack's Empire Builder has direct service to Portand's Union Station from Chicago, Milwaulkee, St. Paul-Minneapolis, and Spokane.  Union Station is located in downtown Portland with easy access to MAX light rail "Green" and "Yellow" lines to PSU dorms and the convention center hotels. 

By Bus

Greyhound Bus Lines provides service to the downtown Portland station, which is conveniently located near Union Station and the MAX Lightrail "Green" and "Yellow" lines to PSU dorms and the convention center hotels.
