All field trips depart from and return to the Oregon Convention Center.
Trips are scheduled for after the scientific program. Field trip fees
include transportation as well as admissions and guides.Please read the Refund and Cancellation Policy. Scientific field trips are ticketed events; tickets will be included in the registration packet.
Birding Trip to the Oregon Coast (Sold Out)

This will be an all-day trip from Portland to the scenic Oregon Coast, likely focusing on Ecola State Park and Cannon Beach.We will observe nesting seabirds on offshore rocky islands and should see (at a distance) Common Murres, Brandt’s and Pelagic Cormorants, Brown Pelicans, and hopefully Tufted Puffins. Black Oystercatchers, Bald Eagles, and Heerman’s Gulls are among other species we will look for along the shore. We will also visit coastal rainforest in search of favorites like American Dipper, Chestnut-backed Chickadee, Swainson’s Thrush, and Varied Thrush.
The trip will be led by local experts. Telescopes provided, but bring binoculars if you have them!
Cost covers van rental only. You will be able to buy food on one of our stops or you can bring a sack lunch. Return time is flexible, but will most likely be 5 PM at the earliest.

A guided trip designed to explore the plant and animal communities recolonizing areas that were devastated by the eruption in 1980. Participants will stop by the visitors center and can participate in a couple of optional hikes of about 2 miles each.Cost covers van rental only. There are not many options to stop for food so you will need to bring a sack lunch. Vans will leave the Oregon Convention Center by 7:30 AM and will return around 6 PM.
Rogue Hop Farm Tour

The Rogue Hop Farm of Rogue Ales is on the Willamette River south of Independence, Oregon, on the former John Haas Alluvial Hop Farm. Eight varieties of hops have been planted on 42 acres, which will be processed and baled on the farm and used in Rogue Ales, Porters, Stouts, and Lagers. The farm includes 44,598 square feet of processing sheds, 2 osprey nests, river-side picnic area, Rogue Farms Tasting Room, and the Rogue Hop N Bed with historical hop farm pictures. Tour the farm with our guide, taste the Chatoe Rogue series of ales made with Rogue's hops, and see hops growing on the vine.The tour will be from 10am-4pm. The farm is in Independence, OR, so we will pick up tour goers at the Rogue Ales Public House at 1339 NW Flanders at 10am and drop them back off there at 4pm. Lunch and one beer ticket is included in the price of the tour. We can accommodate up to 34 people. Cost will be $30/person.
